No one, as far as travelers can tell, can remember the name of the town that sits at the fork of the river. It is notable for the huge, more-or-less intact temple in the center of town, where travelers sometimes stop to rest. Persistent rumors tell that the temple is, for some reason, a truly safe place from the Shroud. Supposedly, a magical lantern hidden in the catacombs beneath the temple can cast a light that drives back the Shroud, and in times of great need it can cause the entire temple to glow.
Other rumors, however, say that the ancient temple was, in fact, dedicated to a dark, unnamed god, and that the protection from the Shroud comes only at a terrible price to one’s soul…
